Full text of 1991 paper providing a theoretical basis for a novel
short-term (and thus inexpensive) cure for AIDS, which is only began to be recognized
in the late 1990s. To 'flush out' latent HIV one needs (as in grouse shooting) both
beaters (programmed activators), and guns (AZT, protease inhibitors, etc.).
Without this, antibiotic resistant strains will (and have) emerge(d).
The failure to vigorously support research on latency is deplorable, because
of the resistance problem, and because those in third
world nations cannot afford expensive treatments, such as HAART, which are ineffective in the long term. |
